Agra, April 9 (IANS) The city of the Taj Mahal Saturday celebrated the victory of the campaign led by Anna Hazare to involve the civil society in the formulation of an effective anti-graft law.Hundreds of people in Agra from all walks of life, including students and professionals, converted their planned sit-ins and fasts at the Shahid Smarak Saturday into victory jamborees.
Hazare ended his hunger strike in Delhi Saturday morning after the union government agreed to form a 10-member joint committee to draft the Lokpal Bill,which would include five nominees of the civil
society. In Agra's Sadar Bazar a big rally has been planned later in the day with members of tourism bodies and market associations joining the 'victory of truth and the common man.'
India Against Corruption, a group of activists and media persons, has called for a conference Sunday to discuss future strategies to tackle corruption, according to activist Mohit Mathur.
Harsh Gupta, an IT professional, said: 'The highlight of this mass upsurge has been the role of communication technologies. In future, governments will need to be extra careful as any bit of information or news can take wings outside the formal framework of conventional media.'
